When my daughter was a child, she had a Mrs. Beasley doll of the TV series "Family Affair". She took Mrs. Beasley with her every where she went. Should we forget and leave her behind, we had to turn around and go back for Mrs. Beasley. After being held and played with for several years, Mrs. Beasley became quite worn. As the years sped by and my daughter lost interest, I most likely threw the doll away. Later, when my daughter was older, married and had children of her own, she started asking me what had happened to Mrs. Beasley. I went on a guilt trip and decided to find her a replacement. I found many of them had quit talking. Many had lost their glasses. I was determined to find her one that still talked and had glasses.
My daughter's birthday was coming up soon. I had to hurry. I finally found one! I was so thrilled. I remember we all went out to eat on my daughter's birthday. Of course, I asked those at the table with us about their childhood toys. After we ate, I could not wait to give my daughter her Mrs. Beasley. I had Mrs. Beasley in a gift bag. My daughter barely pulled the tissue paper away and said "Oh my Goodness! My Mrs. Beasley!" I really do not know who was more excited.....me or my daughter.
From there, my love for vintage dolls grew. I came to appreciate the dolls of our past. There was something so special about them. Some were baby dolls and just had "that sweet baby look". Some were little girls that looked absolutely darling and so much like a little girl. Some were fashion dolls and just beautiful. I loved the way they wore their hair and the fashionable clothes they wore at that time.
