This is vintage Tiny Tears by American Character! I believe she was made from 1959-1961. She is appropriately marked on the back of her head with the patent numbers. She has the long lasting durable vinyl body that should last for many years to come, pretty blue rock-a-bye eyes, rare brunette hair, dark, even eyelashes and rosy cheeks.
Tiny has the rare brunette dark hair. It is my understanding American Character did not make many of these Tiny Tears with the brunette hair. Although I found a few missing plugs, her hair is still full and thick as shown in the pictures.
When I purchased Tiny, some previous owner had painted her eyes. I used a doll cleaner and the paint ran down her cheeks. You may find traces of the paint around her eyes but I prefer to leave it alone as it does not detract from her as she is still a beautiful sweet baby. I added a touch of blush to her cheeks and lips. Some of the pictures may show a stray lash but I think I removed it - see picture of the eyes. Her eyes still close when rocked from side to side and when she is brought upright, they open.
Tiny's vinyl body is nice and clean except for a few small dark spots on the bottom of her feet and around her ankles (just like a real baby!). They are not noticeable as her shoes and socks cover them. This Tiny Tears no longer cries when her little tummy is pressed. I love the sweet little dimples on her toes, feet and hands. her chubby little cheeks are just precious amd reminds me of a real baby!
Baby brings her original Tiny Tears romper, a gorgeous soft pink dress, white panties, white shoes and socks. Tiny brings a vintage bubble pipe, a display rattle and bottle. Tiny's original pacifier is included. It is marked "Tiny Tears/Pat". I believe the ribbon is original. She wears a hand made white "faux" pearl bracelet.
Tiny Tears was a highly sought after doll in the 1950's. She was known as the doll that not only could drink and wet but also cried real tears. Even today, Tiny brings back those sweet special memories we had as children.
